Restaurants in Uyuni, Bolivia

Uyuni is a small town of about 14,000 people, and it is located in southwestern Bolivia. Because of the nearby salt flats, it has become a huge draw for tourists from all around the world. Many come to take one of the tours out of the town and into the wilds of the salt desert. Well, hiking through the Salar de Uyuni or out to the train cemetery (which is always a great place to take photographs) is likely to build up an appetite.

You can find several places throughout the city to grab a bit to eat, including some of the food stalls, something of a Bolivian version of fast food. The following are some of the more popular and reputable establishments in the city, places where you can grab a bite to eat and just relax while waiting for a tour or unwinding from one.

Arco Iris Pub

This establishment is one of the most popular in the area, which serves up great pizza and has a variety of beer. Quite a few travelers use this as a spot to meet and prepare for their tours. The cost of the food, especially given the high quality, is quite reasonable.

Restaurant 16 de Julio

This is another of the very affordable (most main courses costing around $5) and very tasty restaurants located in Uyuni. Here you can find more pizza, pastas, authentic Bolivian specialties, and a variety of international cuisine. Whatever your cravings are, there is a good chance that you will be able to satisfy them at the Restaurant 16 de Julio.

Wiphala Pub

The pub is a very popular place to visit, especially on the weekends when there is live music. You will also find a variety of board games available in case you feel like challenging one of your friends to a game, perhaps to see who gets to pick up the tab. A variety of drinks and food is available, including Bolivian cuisine, which often includes llama.

Minuteman Pizza

Perhaps the most famous eatery in all of Uyuni is Minuteman Pizza. The restaurant, located inside the Tonito hotel, is a friendly and warm restaurant that serves up what is said to be the best pizza in all of South America. You can choose from a variety of unique toppings. They also serve breakfast, and this seems to be the stop of choice on just about every traveler's itinerary.
