I’m making a list of all the things I’d like to do during my next trip to Bolivia. Riding a mountain bike from La Paz to Yungas is at the top of my list. I’ll probably go with one of the established mountain biking tour operators. Gravity Bolivia seems to have the most experience organizing mountain biking tours. Other options are Ranabol, and Down Hill Madness. If you’re planning to make this trip, make sure you first read the mountain biking accident article written by Michael Liebreich to understand the types of risks involved. It’s not for nothing that the La Paz-Yungas road is often called the world’s most dangerous road.

Hi, the road is called the world’s most dangerous, but when I was in Bolivia in 2004, they were building a new road from La Paz to Coroico and Caranavi (of course cross Yungas).
The road looks really good and I can say, it’s not so dangerous as before (the road is enought for 2 trucks), but there are still places, where it’s dangerous.

There were more dangerous places, like broken bridge on this road … close to caranavi, there is a medium river… bridge was broken ( http://photo.goliathus.com/bolivia/barevne/osudny_most.jpg ) and we had to go cross the river … our car stopped in middle … we had to wait for a bulldozer to bring the car out … it’s rare to see brindge in Bolivia
